In The Loop

Most of us know the classic conundrum, "If a tree falls in the forest and nobody is around to hear it, does it make a sound?" I've always loved the way this question makes me think about the big picture. It stretches the mind and makes me giggle at the same time. It's also an emotional little story, because I feel for the tree. Everyone should make a sound. When I painted this painting, I also felt for this bird. She had something to say, but just needed a little help. So I gave her a phone and a friend. Being 'in the loop' is one thing though, finding one's voice is another --- both are important, but one can be quite empty without the other. In my mind, she's working on both.

So if I write my first blog post before I have readers, does it make a sound? Hmmm. I'm still uncertain about this one, but it looks like I'm doing it anyway, because it's about finding a voice right? That, and putting some art and heart in the loop for someone to find someday. And like the tree, I think initially it makes no sound, but eventually someone finds it and says "Yay firewood!" or "Aww, poor tree." A blog is a little like this I guess, so we'll see. A cricket just hopped into my office, so I'll try to keep him for good luck.
